About the author
Hello, I'm Catherine V Rivers, an Early Years teacher and the creator of The Kingdom of Colourful Feelings.
After more than 16 years teaching in EYFS classrooms, I've seen first hand how often children experience big feelings and how powerful stories can be in helping them make sense of those emotions. The Kingdom was created to give children, families and educators a shared language for talking about feelings through engaging stories, memorable characters and practical everyday strategies.
I continue to teach full time, so everything I create is shaped by real classroom experience and developed alongside the children I teach.
Author Visits
I offer a limited number of author visits for nurseries, schools and community settings.
Visits can be tailored to suit your setting and may include:
- Story readings
- Interactive discussions about feelings
- Question and answer sessions
- Exploring the Kingdom characters and helping ideas

Virtual Author Sessions
If you're further away or would prefer a flexible option, I also offer personalised pre-recorded author videos.
Children can send me their questions in advance, and I'll record a bespoke video answering them. This is a wonderful way for classes anywhere in the UK or internationally to enjoy an interactive author experience at a time that suits them.

Do you charge for school visits?
Yes. School visits are charged to reflect the time spent planning, preparing and delivering each session, as well as my experience as both an Early Years teacher and author.
Every visit is carefully tailored to the age of the children and the needs of your setting, creating an engaging and meaningful experience that supports emotional literacy through storytelling.

Can children buy signed copies of the book?
Absolutely.
Many schools choose to offer families the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of The Kingdom of Colourful Feelings.
There are a few ways this can work:
Option 1
Families pre order books through the school. I will invoice the school for the final number of books and bring signed copies on the day of my visit.
Option 2
Families order directly through my website before the visit. I will bring the books ready to sign.
Option 3
For in person visits, I can also offer an after school book signing, with additional copies available to purchase.
How should we prepare for the visit?
Once your visit is booked, I'll send everything you need in advance, including practical information and any resources needed for the session.
For virtual visits, I recommend a short technology check beforehand to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Which age groups are your sessions suitable for?
Sessions are designed for children aged 3 to 8 years, including nurseries, preschools, Reception, Key Stage 1 and many SEND settings.
Activities are adapted to suit the age and needs of the children. Younger children enjoy interactive storytelling, movement and imaginative play, while older children explore emotions, emotional vocabulary and practical helping ideas in greater depth.
Can we read your book aloud?
Yes.
