★★★★★ REVIEW
As someone who spends every day supporting neurodivergent children at Neuro Bloom, I’m always looking for resources that do more than simply name emotions—they help children understand, recognise and manage them in a meaningful way. This book has quickly become one of my favourite resources.
What makes it so valuable is its flexibility. We don’t just read the story—we bring it to life through play, movement and hands-on learning. At Neuro Bloom, we regularly use it alongside LEGO®, magnetic tiles and sensory play to help children build emotional understanding in a way that matches how they learn best.
For children who are minimally speaking or non-speaking, we also pair the story with colour association and visual supports. Linking emotions with colours gives children another way to communicate how they’re feeling when words aren’t available. It provides a simple, accessible language that many children naturally connect with and can build upon over time.
I also love using this book to explore emotional regulation. Rather than simply asking, “How are you feeling?”, we use the characters and scenarios to talk about what emotions feel like in our bodies, what might trigger them, and what strategies might help us feel safe and regulated again. It creates opportunities for problem-solving without placing pressure directly on the child.
The stories are engaging, the characters are relatable, and the conversations that naturally develop from them are often the most valuable part. Every time we’ve used this book at Neuro Bloom, it has encouraged connection, curiosity and deeper emotional understanding.
This isn’t just another children’s book—it’s a fantastic therapeutic resource that supports emotional literacy, communication and self-regulation. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, therapist or anyone supporting children, I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
A thoughtful, practical resource that has earned a permanent place in the Neuro Bloom toolkit.
I absolutely love this story! It is a fantastic resource for supporting emotional literacy, helping children to recognise, understand and talk about their feelings in a way that is meaningful and engaging. I particularly love how it introduces practical strategies for managing emotions through a story children can really connect with.
As an EYFS teacher, this is definitely a book I’ll be adding to my curriculum and sharing with my class. It’s one I’ll be coming back to time and time again, and I highly recommend it to parents and educators alike.
This is a brilliant book for children to learn about how to regulate their feelings with strategies for children to try.
An imaginative story. The children in my year 3/4 class loved the different lands on the map and the fun colourful illustrations.
My class wrote their own feelings stories after being inspired by the story.
A creative way to teach young children about big feelings.
I read "The Kingdom of Colorful Feelings" with my five-year-old, and I really liked how emotional regulation was explained through a story rather than a lesson.
The colorful illustrations kept my child interested, while the story gave us an easy way to talk about how emotions can change and what we can do when feelings become overwhelming.
This is a helpful book for preschool and early elementary children. It teaches that every feeling is valid while giving children practical tools they can actually remember and use.
Such a lovely book, the children I shared it with really enjoyed it and the bright colours captured their attention along with the message the book was written for, absolutely joyful.
Amazing book
I just read this book with my 8yo son and we both thouroughly enjoyed it. The different lands the children visited took us there as we were reading it. He loved the use off different animals too. Using their personalities to use for each. mood is very clever.
This book has a beautiful flow about it. The illustrations are gorgeous and a great way to introduce big feelings and strategies to young and old alike!
Will definitely be a resource I use in my counselling practise!
Absolutely brilliant, can’t wait to use this with my class.
A lovely book! My cl ass of SEND children really enjoyed it. It's a great teaching book for PSHE and tues in nicely with the colour zones of regulation. The children in my class easily related to the characters and taught them/reinforced some strategies to help them when they are dysregulated. Thougherly recommend this book!
A perfect book for pre-schoolers to understand and label their feelings. Beautifully illustrated. Can’t wait to test this in my nursery classroom and explore feelings with them all!
A beautiful introduction to first feelings and how they can physiologically feel. Modelling simple strategies to help regulate those emotions. A story to share with 3-5years at home, in preschool or school. I’ll certainly be using it to support my children at preschool and through therapeutic play sessions with emotional regulation.
A lovely book to teach kids about feelings with beautiful pictures.
Ideal for very young children starting school.
As an educator I will definitely use it in my classes.
Shared the book today in a class of Reception children and they loved it. They really enjoyed the story and were making predictions of which land and feeling would be next. The children have read other stories about feelings and how to deal with them and it was nice that they used their prior knowledge.
The illustrations are beautiful and the story is a good alternative to others in our class library. I will be purchasing for the class, much to their delight. When asked what they liked about the book, they said the animals.
What a lovely book exploring emotions with easy clear colour representation. I read this to a small group of reception children who absolutely loved the animation and the story. Would highly recommended to help children understand emotions.
A great book. Perfect for talking about feelings but what is really fantastic is the way it gives young children strategies for dealing with their feelings in a fun story format. Lovely illustrations too. My class loved it.
What a wonderfully clever book! It is a brilliant story to use to ignite curiosity and spark useful discussions about our emotions at an age appropriate level. The map is fabulous and all the characters are adorable too!
A beautiful ride through the emotional journey our little ones (and ourselves) can take during our everyday lives. Great visual descriptions of each emotion for the children linked to recognised colours for each emotion. What we liked was the strategies it helped to introduce to the children which will help them take into their our experiences. Beautiful illustrations, highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is my F1 classes new favourite book. They loved the ideas of the different lands being different emotions.
It sparked conversations about what might make us be in red land or green land and how we can move between the different lands.
Amazingly written with a nice flow and beautiful illustrations.
